Leica

One sound experience, tuned per speaker across two floors

Leica is a brand defined by precision and restraint. Their Amsterdam store carries that same quality into its physical design — refined finishes, considered proportions, nothing extraneous. When it came to sound, the brief was equally precise: the same music on both floors, at the right level for each space, with nothing visible that would interrupt the visual language of the interior.

The challenge: same music, different acoustics

Multi-floor retail spaces are acoustically demanding. A high-ceilinged ground floor behaves very differently from a lower upper level — the same volume setting that fills one space will overwhelm or disappear in another. Most audio systems handle this with zone controllers or separate playlists. Leica wanted neither: one sound universe, consistent from entrance to top floor.

The additional constraint was aesthetic. In a space this considered, any hardware that entered had to belong there — visually integrated, not bolted on.

The solution: individual volume per speaker

Spottune Omni speakers were installed directly into the store's existing lighting tracks — no additional cabling, no structural modifications. Each speaker was configured individually: the upper floor speakers set to a softer level suited to the lower ceiling and more intimate atmosphere, the ground floor speakers tuned slightly higher to fill the larger open volume evenly.

The result is a single sound experience that feels natural on both floors — not two zones competing, but one calibrated whole. Speaker colours were matched to the two track colours in the store, making the hardware effectively invisible.

"Every speaker can be tuned independently, which means the system adapts to the building — not the other way around. The music is the same everywhere. The level is right everywhere."— Installation note, Leica Store Amsterdam

The result: sound that serves the brand

Customers move between floors without any perceptible shift in sound level or character. The audio supports Leica's premium retail atmosphere — present enough to shape the experience, restrained enough not to define it.

For premium retail stores with architecturally complex spaces, the Leica Amsterdam installation shows what per-speaker volume control makes possible: a wireless commercial audio system that is technically precise, visually uncompromising, and indistinguishable from the interior itself.
